What artwork files do you need for printed sail graphics?
Vector artwork is best: PDF, AI, EPS or SVG, with fonts converted to outlines. High-resolution photography is fine where the design is photographic. For the first conversation you do not need finished files at all — a rough visual is enough for us to say what is possible.
Why vector matters on a sail
A sail is one of the largest single printed surfaces in any industry. A logo that looks sharp on a business card can be several metres across on a spinnaker, and a raster file that was fine for a website will not survive that enlargement.
Vector artwork scales without loss, which is why it is the first thing we ask for.
Colour
Send brand colour references if the sponsor controls them. Bear in mind that a sail is translucent and is seen with light behind it as often as in front of it, so a colour on a sail does not behave like the same colour on paper or on a screen. We work with that rather than against it.
What to send with the artwork
Sail type and approximate dimensions, whether it is new or used, the cloth and coating if known, the racing level and expected lifetime, whether the sail runs through a chute, and when the graphics need to be back at the loft.
